Avril Lavigne's Nickelback Cover Hits The Net

Avril Lavigne and Chad Kroeger
Avril Lavigne and Chad Kroeger
We suppose this was inevitable, given they're working on an album together (and, y'know, engaged), but now, Avril Lavigne's and Chad Kroeger's bond has grown even stronger, as Lavigne has covered one of her soon-to-be husband's signature hits.
Yes, on Tuesday (December 11), Lavigne's take on Nickelback's "How You Remind Me" hit the 'net, and, she definitely puts a dour spin on the tune. Over somber piano chords, Lavigne taps into the lover's lament that Kroeger's growly original merely touched on (we can't wait for her version of "Bottoms Up"), and the thing is actually really pretty for a Nickelback tune.

Lavigne recorded the cover for the soundtrack of the Japanese animated film "One Piece Film: Z," and it comes backed with a second cover, this one of Joan Jett's "Bad Reputation." A spokesperson for the singer also confirmed that the song online is, in fact, accurate, and added "this is not a single release ... Avril is currently hard at work on her upcoming studio album."
Of course, there's still no release date for that studio album, which features at least one song with Kroeger ... earlier this year, Epic Records honcho L.A. Reid said that the untitled album had made it to the mixing stage, and that he expected "to release it very soon ... I'd like to get it out this year, but time seems to be flying. If we don't, it will be top of the new year."

Illinois Man Gets 40 Years For Killing Mom Over Avril Lavigne Tickets

Illinois Man Gets 40 Years For Killing Mom Over Avril Lavigne Tickets
Here's one of those crazy true crime stories that has too many nutty details to be true, and then will surely end up as a twisted thing on Law & Order: SVU: Robert Lyons of Chicago got a sentence of 40 years in jail this week, after he was found guilty of killing his mother over Avril Lavigne tickets. Apparently, in 2008, the now 39-year-old Lyons was upset that his 61-year-old mother wouldn't call a fried of hers to get him skybox tickets to see Avril Lavigne, so he stabbed her nine times in the back. He then tried to dissolve her body, and left to go shopping. Police found him later hanging out at Hooters.

Avril Lavigne, Alanis Morissette And R. Kelly Perform On ‘The X Factor’

Last night on the final performance night of The X Factor, the Top 3 — Josh Krajcik, Melanie Amaro, and Chris Rene — got some all-star support for one of their numbers. Avril Lavigne stopped by to bust out her debut single “Complicated” with Chris, while Melanie teamed up with sea cap’n R. Kelly on his overly sentimental, incredibly overplayed “I Believe I Can Fly”. Our favorite duet, though, had to be Josh singing alongside a sleek-haired Alanis Morissette, not just because “Uninvited” is the best song of the three (it clearly is), but because any excuse for Alanis to return to the stage should be celebrated. Watch all three performances below.
